Text Alert Scheme
We have continued our very successful mobile phone texting scheme. This is a very valuable tool in communicating with our volunteers. Each Monday morning a text alert is sent to all on the list reminding them of the meeting point and informing them of the plans for that same Monday evenings work. This allows anyone who may not be able to make the meeting point on time catch up with the group later that evening.
Due to the economic climate we have not carried out a door-to-door collection in the past 3 years, however we have been granted permission to do a church gate collection in both parishes (Leixlip & Confey). We apply yearly to Kildare Co Co for a grant towards specific projects and we also apply to all local grant schemes available. We have been very fortunate in receiving some sponsorship from local businesses. We hold an annual raffle using prizes donated by local businesses.
Working with Youth Groups
In the last few years we have increased our involvement with the younger community members. We regularly have secondary school volunteers from the Gaisce programme. We also have secured the help of Confey Youth Club with some recent projects. We liaise with all schools in the area.
Meeting with Local Authorities
We meet with Local Authorities including South Dublin County Council (SDCC) and with the Leixlip Area Committee (LAC) of Kildare County Council (KCC). At these meetings we address issues of mutual concern that fall under the authority of these bodies and urge prompt action.
Over the years we have had a good rapport with Spar in Leixlip and they have provided us with black sacs and litterpicks to assist us in our litter picking. We are constantly building up relationships with our local schools and Youth Clubs to encourage the participation in the environment.
Leixlip has two GAA Clubs, one rugby club and one soccer club. Leixlip Amenities Centre is an excellent facility located in Collinstown, it offers an all-weather football pitch up to European standards, tennis courts, handball alley and running tracks. The Salmon Leap Canoe Club is a very famous club worldwide and is one of the main competing clubs in the annual Liffey decent.
